Shades and UK tint law

Coming from Worksop, you only need to decide once you are here: the display glass in our office shows every shade, and the team can talk you through them.

UK law lets you tint rear windows any shade. Front driver and passenger windows must let through at least 70% of light and the windscreen 75%, and factory glass already lets through less than full light, so we only tint from the B pillar back (gov.uk rules). Our window tinting page has the full shade guide.

Worksop window tinting questions

How far is Worksop from TintTech Nottingham?

25.6 miles. Outside rush hour the drive along the A614 takes about 41 minutes.

How long will I be at the studio?

Under an hour for the rear half of most cars, and about 30 minutes for a 3-door hatchback. You can wait in our cosy waiting area or explore the nearby shops and restaurants.

Can I choose my shade on the day?

Yes. We have a display piece of glass in our office showcasing all the shades, so you can compare them and choose on the day of your appointment.

Are window tints fitted to the outside or inside?

Window tints are applied to the interior side of the glass, which protects the film and gives a smooth, professional finish. You may see us working on the outside of the glass, but that is just preparation before the film goes on the inside.

What if it's faulty?

At TintTech Nottingham, our window tints come with a Lifetime Warranty, ensuring you're covered against any bubbles, peeling, fading, or even if the tint changes colour over time. We stand by the quality of our work, giving you complete peace of mind.

What shade is most commonly chosen?

The most popular shade is 20%, striking the perfect balance: never too dark, never too light. For maximum privacy we recommend our 5% tint.

How long till I can roll down my windows?

Keep your windows up for at least 5 days after tinting so the film bonds properly to the glass. They still work in an emergency, but rolling them down too soon could cause the tint to peel.

Will I be pulled by the Worksop police?

Rear tints in any shade are legal, so they shouldn't be a reason to stop you. The law covers the front: the windscreen must let through at least 75% of light and the front side windows at least 70%. Factory glass already lets through less than full light, so even a light film can take the fronts under that limit, which is why we only tint from the B pillar back.

Can window tint be removed?

Yes, window tint is fully reversible. We offer a removal service, just call us for a quote, or you can peel the film off yourself and clean any adhesive residue with a glue remover.

Will my vehicle pass an MOT in Worksop with window tints?

Rear tints won't fail an MOT: it is perfectly legal to have your rear windows tinted to any shade you prefer. The MOT checks the front glass, which we leave untinted. If you ever encounter any issues with your MOT related to window tints, don't hesitate to give us a call. We're here to help and can assist in resolving any concerns.

Will the film cause any issues with the rear defroster lines?

No. The film is applied directly over your demister lines without causing any damage, and the demister continues to work normally.

Does my car need to be clean upon arrival?

While a clean car can help, it's not absolutely necessary.

Exterior: Please ensure your car's exterior is relatively clean. It doesn't need to be spotless, but if it's covered in mud from off-roading, we won't be able to tint it properly.

Interior: The cleaner, the better, but it's not essential. We'll thoroughly clean your windows before applying the tint, so any dust or contamination will be removed during the process.

Will the window film applied affect my radio signals in Worksop?

No, the film we use is non-metallic, so it won't interfere with your vehicle's signals, including GPS, radio, or mobile phone reception. You can enjoy the benefits of tinted windows without any impact on your car's connectivity.
